NOW is a grassroots organization that makes changes to assist Women's Rights by lobbying our legislators, proposing laws and demonstrating in the streets to raise awareness of important issues.
Local NOW Chapters do not provide any legal services for individuals.
Your fee of $35.00 per year will include National, State and local chapter membership.
Past Meetings
We were fortunate to have Zita Rarastesa (Tesa) as our guest speaker for the November meeting. She is an international Fulbright student at USF and spoke about the role and status of women in Indonesia.
Tim Heberlein, organizer for Florida Consumer Action Network was our speaker at the September meeting. He also spoke about Awake The State.

Our speaker for August was Irene Bembry who spoke about community health education. Irene has a wealth of information to share about this important topic, particularly as it relates to women.
Tempie Taudte, a long time member, spoke at our April meeting, about how the new immigration laws will effect women and families. The Florida Legislature is probably going to pass an Arizona style immigration bill here in Florida. She recommends a book, They Take Our Jobs by Aviva Chomsky. Another book is When Everything Changed by Gail Collins.
Jeanine Coriel, a long time member, spoke at our March meeting about the false , she recommends the book, 'Pink Ribbons, Inc. Breast Cancer and the Politics of Philanthropy by Samantha King. There is a website that will give you the information from her talk. There is also the Breast Action Action website that will give you more information.
A Representative from THE SPRING came to talk to us at a meeting. Contact www.thespring.org to know all the new and helpful programs that they have going. It is the only certified Domestic Violence Prevention and Emergency Shelter Agency. Call 813-247-SAFE for information or to volunteer.
Toni Van Pelt, National District Board came to discuss the National Organization for Women and what is happening at the National Level. VERY interesting discussion.
We always discuss the elections and candidates. They never seem to end. We are not endorsing any candidates as we have not formed a PAC but if you are on our elist - we can help you out with candidate information. Check out the Stand Up for Choice voters guide at www.flplannedparenthoodvotes.org

So we have a suggestion:
W.O.M.E.N. is a non-profit organization in Tampa that assists women by paying for abortions. Many indigent women are harmed by Medicaid's exclusion of funding for abortion services. Now, even if they have insurance, these services will be excluded. W.O.M.E.N. has helped women who, for various reasons, find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy that they feel unable to continue.
